Killer Boyfriend Thinks He Fooled The Police
He told a police officer his boyfriend had simply gone away with friends and needed some space. Store cameras across Southwest Florida had already recorded what he was really doing.
Barry Schmalbach, 56, of Cape Coral, Florida, was last seen on camera at 8:29 p.m. on July 19, 2023, walking home from a bar with his boyfriend, Christopher Davis. Three days later, Davis called police to say he was worried. In this video we count every time his story breaks against the evidence: the Apple Watch, the Jeep, the bank call, the night he says he slept, a rental under another name, a pickaxe and a shovel, and more.
On June 26, 2025, a Lee County jury found Christopher Davis guilty of second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and eight counts of fraudulent use of a deceased person's personal information. The same day, he was sentenced to life in prison plus 45 years. Barry Schmalbach's body has never been found.
