World's greatest engine: DRAG RACE

While all four cars in this line-up may seem vastly different to each other, they have one thing in common - under each of their bonnets is a BMW B58 engine! This 3-litre straight-six turbo may be one of the most famous engines around, but how does it fare when used across four different cars? It’s time to find out! First up we have the Morgan Supersport 400. Here the B58 produces 408hp and 500Nm, with this power sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It’s by far the lightest car here, at just 1,170kg, but it’s also easily the most expensive, costing a colossal £138,883! Alongside it we have the BMW M240i. This B58 produces 392hp and 540Nm, but unlike the Morgan, this power is sent to all four wheels! It tips the scales at 1,690kg, and it costs around £50,000. Up next we have the Mk5 Supra. Here the B58 has been limited to just 340hp and 500Nm, and this is sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed auto. It weighs in at 1,495kg, and it costs £53,000 - or at least it did when last on sale in 2023. Finally we come to the INEOS Grenadier. Once again it’s powered by a B58, and it would usually produces 286hp and 450Nm. However, it’s been tuned, so it now puts down 460hp and 650Nm! Along with the tune it’s also been lightened, so the weight has dropped from 2,665kg to 2,480kg. The starting price of a regular INEOS is around £72,000. So how will this one play out - will the BMW’s AWD propel it to victory? Or will the super-light Morgan snatch it?
