The Secret World of Bugs | 4K Nature Documentary

Bugs. Insects. They live beneath our notice. They crawl through our gardens, lurk in our kitchens, hunt in our ponds and fill the skies above our heads. There are an estimated 4.5 million different species of bugs sharing this planet with us and most of us have never truly seen them.Until now. This stunning 4K documentary will shrink you down to bug size and take you on a global journey — from the monarch butterfly's epic migration through North America, to trapdoor spiders ambushing prey on the forest floor, to the microscopic battlefield of your own garden. The secret to their success? The exoskeleton. Every bug on Earth is encased in a suit of armour made from a substance called chitin. One of nature's most versatile materials. It can be sculpted into razor-sharp jaws, shaped into delicate wings strong enough to carry a butterfly 4,000 kilometres, or hardened into armour that has protected insects for hundreds of millions of years. It is the single innovation that has made bugs the most successful animals in the history of life on Earth. And yet for all their strangeness, for all their alien beauty and casual brutality, we cannot live without them. Insects pollinate the crops that feed us. They break down the waste that would otherwise overwhelm us. Remove them from the equation and the human race would not last more than a few months. After watching this, you will never look at a bug the same way again. 💚 Like this video if you love nature! 🔔 Subscribe for more nature documentaries: https://www.youtube.com/c/TerraMaterO... 🔗 More about this production: https://www.terramater.at/productions... 📽️ Info: Written and directed by Steve Nicholls and Martin Mészáros Executive producers: Sabine Holzer Production companies: Produced by Terra Mater Factual Studios Chapters: 00:00 A Monarch Butterfly Spectacle in the Mexican Mountains 01:59 The Creatures That Rule Our Planet - Insects 02:48 What Exactly Defines a Bug? 05:00 How many Bugs are there? 06:40 The Versatility of Chitin 07:45 The Miracle of Insect Flight 11:00 Armored Fighters: The Stag Beetle 13:40 Diversity of Insect Mandibles 15:36 Masters of Camouflage - Praying Mantis 17:40 Ant Lions build pitfall traps! 19:30 Beware: Spiders! 22:45 Bugs in urban Environments 29:30 Insect Adventures in the meadow 32:40 This Snake eats crickets? 34:45 Insect Hunters!
